Clinical Trial of Biloptin in Oral Cholecystography

Abstract
Twenty medical students, 47kg in weight and 21 years old in average, were included in this study. All of them were required to have oral¢¥-cholecystography, but with no evidence of liver, kidney and heart disease.
After the standard preparation for the test, all were given oral Biloptin, 3 gm in dose, at 7:00 on the morning and no oral intake was permitted except water throughout the test. Radiography was done with intervals of two, three, four and 14 hours after ingestion.
In 95% of them, the initial visualization of the gall bladder started at three hours and the maximal opacification was reached at five hours of ingestion. The opacification on the four-hour-film was most adequate for the diagnostic purposes.
The optimal visualization range was 14 to 19 hours with Telepaque and five to six hours with Bilopaque and the result with Biloptin could be, compared favorably with those of the two contrast media.
The common duct was opacified on the ten-hour-film in one case and on the 14-hour-films in four cases after fat meal.
Noremarkable side effects were noted except mild nausea in one case. These data have suggested that for the opacification of the gall bladder and early visualization Biloptin has definite advantage over other contrast media.
